As is usual with this series from Day One, though not a full-blown commentary, it ‘does what it says on the tin’. It helps to open your mind to see what God is saying to us through Genesis: That He is the powerful Creator; that we are all sinful like Adam; that God is holy (see the flood, Sodom & Gomorrah etc.); but that all along God had a plan to save a multitude of people through Another Adam, whose seed is promised would come. Our author shows how Moses’ main aim was to tell ‘in shadows’ the gospel of God’s grace through Christ. Along the way we are treated to well-crafted highlights of the lives of the first men and women of saving faith – warts and all. It is a reliable and thrilling summary of what is probably the most important book for our understanding of…well, almost everything, including the rest of scripture.
